MATIAS BISULCA
ABOUT ME
Matias Bisulca has been Co-Principal Trombone of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra since 2024 and Trombone Soloist of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra at Teatro Colón since 2018.
Previously, he was a member of the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Argentino de La Plata for eleven seasons and served as Trombone Soloist of the Argentine National Symphony Orchestra for two seasons.
With extensive experience in renowned orchestras, Matias is frequently invited as guest principal trombone in some of the most prestigious orchestras in South America, including the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón, Camerata Bariloche, and the SODRE Symphony Orchestra (Montevideo, Uruguay), among others.
He has collaborated under the baton of internationally acclaimed conductors such as Charles Dutoit, Alexander Lazarev, Daniel Barenboim, and many other distinguished maestros.
His career includes performances alongside great artists such as Martha Argerich, Mischa Maisky, Anna Netrebko, Maxim Vengerov, Bryn Terfel, Elina Garanca, Aida Garifullina, among others.
As a soloist, Matias has given recitals and concerts with various ensembles, including a performance with the organ in Hartford (USA), a solo appearance at the National Auditorium of CCK in Buenos Aires, as well as concerts with the Santa Fe Symphonic Band and the Camerata Eluthería string orchestra, among other notable performances.
Matías Bisulca graduated from the National University of the Arts in Buenos Aires. He began his musical studies at the age of 13 under the guidance of Pablo Fenoglio, Solo Trombone of the Orquesta Estable del Teatro Colón, and Gaspar Licciardone, Solo Trombone of the Buenos Aires Philharmonic Orchestra.
Awarded scholarships by the National Arts Fund and the Ministry of Culture, Matías continued his studies abroad. In 2011, he was admitted to the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock (Germany), where he studied with Jamie Williams, Solo Trombone of the Deutsche Oper Berlin. Later, in 2017, he moved to New York City, continuing his studies as a visiting student at the Manhattan School of Music (USA) under the guidance of Professor David Finlayson, member of the New York Philharmonic.
He further enriched his training by taking private lessons with internationally renowned trombonists, including Joseph Alessi (New York Philharmonic), Jörgen van Rijen (Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam), Jesper Busk Sørensen (Berlin Philharmonic), Filipe Alves (Staatskapelle Berlin), Wolfram Arndt (Berlin Philharmonic), Norman Bolter (Boston Symphony Orchestra), among others.
His teaching experience includes serving as Trombone Professor at the Instituto Superior de Arte Juan Pedro Esnaola from 2013 to 2023, as well as holding a faculty position at the Ástor Piazzolla Conservatory of Music. His commitment to music education is reflected in his ongoing participation as a teacher in masterclasses and courses at various conservatories, music schools, and renowned festivals, most notably the prestigious Trombonanza Festival.
